Medicol Advance pays tribute to Selfless Winners

We have recently heard a lot of inspiring stories of random individuals and groups that have come together to help Filipinos from all walks of life in times of great need. Indeed, it has touched our hearts to know that in these trying times, Filipinos can come together with one voice and with one spirit.

With so many winning acts that are done selflessly in the country this year, Medicol Advance would like to thank and pay tribute to these people who have gone out of their way to help other people and communities.

From October 12 to November 6, 2009, we invite everyone to nominate individuals or groups of individuals that have truly exemplified selfless winning acts in 2009. All you have to do is visit Medicol Advance’s facebook page and share the inspiring story of a person/group you wish to nominate.

Each week, for FOUR (4) weeks, Medicol Advance will donate P10,000 worth of grocery and personal care items plus P10,000 worth of Medicol Advance to the beneficiary/community of the nominee’s choice. The nominator will also be given gift certificates, which they can also use to reach out to help other people in need.

This is Medicol Advance’s own little way of paying it forward by recognizing and helping other people who may want to reach out to those who are in need but do not have the resources to do so

This is also just the first of Medicol Advance’s upcoming efforts to pay tribute to Selfless Winners of our country today.

Log-on to the Facebook and search for: Medicol Advance’s Selfless Winning Acts Page to join and read the full mechanics

Medicol Advance is from the makers of Medicol.

Unilab brands sweep honors in the 2009 Tambuli Awards

Alaxan won a Bronze Award under the Best Established Product Brand Campaign Category for successfully reinforcing its dominance in the pain medication category by proving itself as the body pain expert.

Biogesic also bagged a Bronze Award in the Best Insights and Strategic Thinking Category for its ground-breaking “Ingat!” campaign, which taps on a winning Filipino insight that expresses care and concern for each other, and ties it with the brand’s promise of safety.

Skelan won a Bronze Award for Best Innovative and Integrated Media Campaign for promoting a paradigm shift in how arthritis sufferers view their conditions. Through a danceable song popularized by actor and dancer Vhong Navarro, the campaign encouraged them to exercise and take proper medication to manage and overcome arthritis.

The Tambuli Awards is open to both advertisers and ad agencies, and is organized by the UA&P Institute of Communication in association with the MORES (Marketing and Opinion Research Society of the Philippines) and Business World.

AH1N1: Pandemic over, but world still at risk

According to the World Health Organization, the AH1N1 pandemic is now in its “post-pandemic period”. However, this does not mean that we are completely safe from the deadly virus—it only means that the global threat is lower. That’s why it’s still very important to protect yourself at all costs. Here are a few tips:

  1. Wash your hands properly, frequently. This is still the best way to prevent the spread of AH1N1 and other flu viruses.

  2. As much as possible, keep away from sick people. Avoid crowded places where viruses tend to spread.

  3. Eat nutritious food, get ample rest, and exercise regularly. Drink multivitamins and take doctor-prescribed flu-shots. Remember, a strong immune system is your best defense.

Ingat!

When disaster strikes

According to the Citizens Disasters Response Center (CDRC), the Philippines was hit by almost 100 disasters for the first half of 2010. Twenty of these disasters are weather-related, such as drought and floods. The rest are man-made and are mostly fire accidents.

More floods and typhoons are expected for the rest of the year. Here are safety tips:

  1. Keep calm and stay inside the house. Avoid wading through floods. But if your house is in a flood-prone area, evacuate immediately.

  2. Turn off your main source of electricity, but tune in to a battery-powered radio for updates.

  3. Secure your emergency kit1 as well as your valuables.

In case of fire, here’s what you can do:

  1. Use a fire extinguisher or a wet cloth to stop a small fire. If the fire is out of control, don’t try to put it out. Make sure you get everyone out of the house and into a safe location then call the fire department.

  2. Crawl your way out, as smoke and hot air tend to go up. If this is not possible, leave through a window. Or dangle a white piece of cloth from your window to alert firemen of your presence.

  3. As you escape, close doors behind you to delay the spread of fire. Once you’re safely outside, do not re-enter the house.

Stay safe.
