Avoid the dangers of dehydration
Dehydration is a dangerous medical condition. If you’re not able to replenish the fluids you lose, you risk suffering from nausea, dizziness, fainting spells, fever and heart palpitations. In severe cases, especially among babies and children, it can cause kidney failure, shock, or even death. Don’t let dehydration ruin summer for your family. Here are a few tips:
- Remember to drink plenty of water every day. Eight or more glasses are ideal. You may also drink fruit juices or shakes. Avoid coffee as it can act as a mild diuretic, causing you to urinate more.
- Physical activities may cause excessive sweating, especially with summer’s intense heat. Remember to drink up on water before, during and after getting active.
- To keep cool, make sure to wear light-colored clothes that are made from breathable fabric such as cotton.
Enjoy your summer!
